Your Creative Journal

Creative Journaling/Writing has no boundaries unless you make them.  Write, draw, stamp, color!!  You don’t have to stay within the lines.  Write a story; create a song, a poem.  Over the years you will build a wealth of notes that could lead anywhere you want to go, the next great novel, or screen play.

You never know!!

“All of life’s riddles are answered in the movies.” – Steve Martin

There are quite a few faces to poetry, from metered rhyming verses to free style to a more formal structure.  All are great for journaling; whether they are serious, fun/silly, and lyrical or thought-provoking they are all a great form of expressing yourself in your journals.

Free Verse Poems

Free verse poems don’t rhyme or have any set meter but they flow from you mind, your heart, and your soul with rhythm.

Essays and Prose

1.    Fiction-Write a story

2.    Real life-Write about a day/week in your life

3.    Fable-Write a fairy tale

4.    Observations

Create a fairy tale with yourself as a hero.  Use fact, fantasy and anything else that comes to mind. Bring out the writer that is hiding within you.  Create a drama and spill your guts.

1.    Tell a story

2.    Parody-Tong-in-cheek

Songs usually tell a story.  Pour your heart out; let your emotions tell a story in song. Write a funny parody about life.  Write a song about your child, your favorite pet or a lover.

My Best Friend Forever!

My Best Friend in all the world is a girl/lady (I still think of us as girls)  I grew up with in a small town in the Mid-West.  We laughed and cried together and we even shared a boy friend, once.  Then I moved across the country, but that did not end our friendship.

It has been many years and I have changed and so has she.  Some would think because of the differences in our lives that we would have grown apart.  That has never happened.

I have taken a whole different path and she has stayed steady on hers.  Even though I have gone a different way in my beliefs she still loves me for what I am and never has she been disapproving.

In some ways we are still the same; husbands, children and grandkids.  But in other ways we are like night and day and still she is my Best Friend.  Sometimes we don’t talk for long, long months, but when we do it is like we were just together yesterday.

I love you My Best Friend Forever! (she knows who she is)

“Best friends are people you know you don’t need to talk to every single day. You don’t even need to talk to each other for weeks, but when you do, it’s like you never stopped talking.” Unknown

We all have choices we need to make in our lives, good choices and bad.  Usually we don’t know the results of what we choose to do until days, months later.   Then we live with the consequences.

But that is not to say a bad choice or one that didn’t turn out the way we wanted it to needs to impact us negatively.    As long as we learn from our mistakes, it then was not a mistake, but a life learning experience.

Don’t be afraid to put your foot forward for fear you will stub your toe.  What a huge mistake that would be, as then you will never know where you would be or what you could have accomplished.

There are times I have “commitment phobia”.  I fear making a decision because I am afraid of failure.  I am working to overcome that fear and to learn to make commitments to myself and to others. If it doesn’t turn out the way I wanted it to, I learn from the experience.  When you learn you grow not only in knowledge but in life experiences.

So make those choices and go forward and learn from the experience.

“But until a person can say deeply and honestly, “I am what I am today because of the choices I made yesterday,” that person cannot say, “I choose otherwise.”
Stephen R. Covey
