What a Beautiful Morning

Morning Journaling

It is cloudy out this morning, which makes it a good time to sit down and journal. Although any time is a good time to journal. Day, night, rain or shine, journal and feel the stress leave your body.

Why journal? It clears the heart and soul of things that get in the way. Sorrow, fear, hate. Write them down and close the journal and walk away. Better yet, tear out that page and burn it. You will be surprised how much satisfaction and cleansing this will bring.

THEN, journal about the things you are thankful for in your life, be it either the past or the present. Your family, friends, the animals in your life, there is no limit of people or things that bring you great joy. There is so much to be thankful for each and every day.

I am thankful for the clouds and rain as they are rare where I live. The beautiful sunrise I got to see this morning because my cat Thor Kitty insisted I get up. Now, because I got up, I get the witness and enjoy the rare quiet of my house, as I sit here journaling with coffee in hand and my cat curled up at my side.

No more War

It seems like all my life we, as a country, have been involved in one war or another.

1950-1953 Korean War United States (as part of the United Nations) and South Korea vs. North Korea and Communist China
1960-1975 Vietnam War United States and South Vietnam vs. North Vietnam
1961 Bay of Pigs Invasion United States vs. Cuba
1983 Grenada United States Intervention
1989 US Invasion of Panama United States vs. Panama
1990-1991 Persian Gulf War United States and Coalition Forces vs. Iraq
1995-1996 Intervention in Bosnia and Herzegovina United States as part of NATO acted peacekeepers in former Yugoslavia
2001 Invasion of Afghanistan United States and Coalition Forces vs. the Taliban regime in Afghanistan to fight terrorism.
2003 Invasion of Iraq United States and Coalition Forces vs. Iraq

As a young girl, living in Ohio, I can remember visiting a shopping mall where we got to tour bomb shelters. You could buy one of several different sizes and put one under your back yard. Not that they would have done any good, but it made our parents feel safer. It terrorized me. How many back yards in the Midwest still have these shelters underground? How many of them have been forgotten.

I remember vividly the Bay of Pigs, I didn’t sleep I was so scared. That was all any adult in my small farming community could talk about.   We even made and rolled bandages, we were preparing for the worst. My cousin was on a Navy blockade ship and I was so afraid I would never see him again. War, conflict, is a social disruption and economic destruction and has a way of instilling fear into your heart and soul.

So why are we still involved in someone else’s war, even though we are not wanted there. Why do we as a nation think we need to be the “World Police”. Why can’t we be the “World Peacemakers”. There has to be a better way.

Finding My Own Time

I am at a time and place in my life where I no longer need  or want a career/job out side of the home.  What I do have is an on line business where I make, create and sell Leather Journals, Belt Bags, Messenger Bags and other leather items.  But no matter where you are in your life, career girl, newly wed, new mom, mom of teens or empty nester, you need as I do, time all to yourself!

You need to escape the chaos of your world, your day.  I find when working for myself I work even longer hours and yes even weekends, but I love what I do. Even I need an escape, time for myself even if it is just for a short thirty minutes before everyone gets up, I sit down have a cup of coffee and enjoy the quiet.  So go out on your porch or patio, stroll through your garden, sit in the barn with the cows, take the time, your time.  Take a deep breath, relax, clear your mind and listen to the quiet.

This is so important for all of us in our crazy go, go world of noise and back to back meetings, or customers that want a custom item that just can’t happen.  This is your time, make it happen and don’t feel that you have to share it with anyone.

As Norman Vincent Peale said “Learn to relax. Your body is precious, as it houses your mind and spirit. Inner peace begins with a relaxed body.”

So create your own relaxed space by taking time just for yourself.  Life is short and you need to stop the crazy noise even if it is just for a short amount of time every day.

Live your life to it’s fullest!

Live your life to its fullest!

Don’t ever feel you have to be what you aren’t just because it’s what someone else wants.  Be you.  Do what makes you happy.  Do what makes your soul sing!  Don’t follow, lead.

It is never to late.  You don’t need money to be happy.  You don’t need a lot of “stuff”.  Sometimes the simplest things are the best things.  A cat’s purr, the moment the sun comes up in the morning and turns the eastern sky a mauve pink.  Writing a “To Do” list for the day and being excited to accomplish them.

Don’t spend another minute hating what you do.  Do what you are passionate about, what makes YOU happy.  Art, writing, gardening, even if it is only for a few hours ad day…….DO IT!  Don’t get stuck in a miserable rut, Seriously, life is too short to be unhappy every day.

Don’t go into the family business, the family career just because that is what your family has done for hundreds of years.  Don’t let someone else structure your life. You are a unique individual.  Find YOUR passion.

Good Vibrations

Good Vibrations

Did you ever notice when you walk into a room, building or store you can feel either chaos or calm.  Music does that too, calms or excites you.  Some days when I get into may car to drive home, I have a headache and my muscle across my shoulders and neck are tight and ache, yet when I turn on my favorite jazz station I literally can feel my muscles relax.  I then can take a deep breath and feel my whole body start to relax.

Have you ever noticed when you walk into a room where there are two other people, you know instantly if there was an argument or a joke being told.  It’s not just the body language, there is a positive or negative vibration in the air.  You could have your eyes shut and you could feel the vibrations.    Close your eyes right now and stretch out with your senses, what do you feel?

I have found that music is the best way to change or elevate a mood, try it.  Play something jazzy right now, bet you want to dance.

Every morning when I look out my window at the sunrise, I feel a sense of not only beauty by calm.  What a great way to start my day!

Journaling for Therapy, Health and Peace of Mind

THERAPEUTIC JOURNALING

1.    Write down positive ways to actively participate in your therapy

2.    How will you/are you removing stress to achieve emotional health

3.    Mind over “What’s the Matter”

4.   Peace of Mind

We are brought up to believe that emotion is bad.  Emotion, we are told, clouds our minds and interferes with us being objective and how we  analyze facts. Our lives are full of emotional ups and downs like a roller coaster.  We are lucky that most of them fall into the category of minor occurrences.  The Medical Community has long recommended journaling to their patients and clients as part of their ongoing prescription for healing for both physical and emotional health.  Write it down, it is then so much easier to walk away and put the problem behind you.

“Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
